Sander de Groot, MSc. Mechanical Engineering 1997, worked for more than 22 years at NRG, the Dutch nuclear research institute, operator of the High Flux Reactor Petten and worldwide leading supplier of medical isotopes. Sander has a background in computational engineering, design and management of nuclear fuel and material irradiations, post-irradiation examination, business development, and medical isotope development.
He is founder and currently the Chief Science Officer (CSO) of the scale-up company Thorizon, developing a patented molten salt reactor concept, in which the core is formed by individually contained replaceable modules. The concept facilitates qualification and realisation, solves MSR material and activated material handling challenges by practical replacement, and reduces costs by a high level of modularity and off-site component manufacturing.
